Inspiring Kids to Move is a 2-hour workshop developed by Imagination Yoga for teachers, parents, and others who work with children. No previous yoga experience is necessary. We’ll present simple, age-appropriate ways to use yoga to not only get kids moving but also help them tap into their innate calm, concentration, and kindness. While the tools presented are geared toward children aged 2–12, they can be adapted to suit any age.
How can kids benefit from yoga?
Yoga and mindfulness have been shown to provide a host of physical and mental health benefits for children, including improvements in
- Balance, endurance, and strength
- Aerobic capacity
- Focus and memory
- Stress and anxiety
- Academic performance
Yoga for kids looks different than an adult yoga class. Imagination Yoga uses imaginative storytelling and movement to engage kids’ attention and imagination. This playful approach allows children to relax and have fun while building foundational capacities like awareness of self and others, self-soothing techniques, confidence, and mental flexibility.
What happens during the workshop?
During the Inspiring Kids to Move workshop, we’ll take our own Imagination Yoga adventure so you can experience it from the child’s perspective. (Adults often love this!) We’ll spend time learning basic poses and how to teach them in ways that children can easily follow. We’ll also talk about some other activities you can use at home or in the classroom to help children find calm and concentration. For those who would like them, we’ll provide a certificate of completion at the end of the workshop. Teachers and other professionals may wish to submit these for CE credit.
